Komoot Hiking Rally

Visual Identity for a multi-day hiking event that aims to encourage more people to have big adventures in a small time frame. The visual system I created helped to shape the event communication and supported the storytelling.

The brief

Komoot's UK Hiking Community Manager Grace needed graphic support for a new event format she was launching. The event series should be beginner friendly and be an open and welcoming environment for the participants.

The design

Over several weeks I worked closely with her to create a visual identity that is part of the komoot world but also stand on its own and communicates the casual and fun vibe of the event.

I chose Shuriken Boy as the base font of the logo, as it has a rugged vibe with shapes reminiscent of soles of hiking boots, but at the same time is playful and friendly. Using shapes derived from the letters, I created an additional layer of visual elements that expanded the brand system.

The Execution

The end result was a design language which I applied throughout all touchpoints like social media posts, event platforms and on-site materials.

Social Assets

The branding Jonas created was spot-on—it pulled everything together and really helped get people excited about the event.

On location

Throughout the event the logo and design language was also deployed on printed materials and mugs to bring the digital branding into the real world.

Video production

To use the event for further brand building we also commissioned a film. To extend the event branding into that film I created an animated version of the logo, lower thirds and map animations. During the post-production I worked closely with the external cutter on the integration of the assets.
