When Erwin Sikkens was planning the Green Divide – a 307-kilometer nature traverse – details mattered. The route links the Netherlands’ national parks and green spaces together via unpaved doubletrack sections, forest paths, singletrack trails, and gravel roads.

If you’ve ever planned a long route, on specific types of roads and trails, you’ll know the feeling of painstakingly adding individual waypoints, and watching the little wheel of doom spin indefinitely. Or the look of a messy map where the Tour line disappears underneath a muddle of waypoint dots.

Long Tour planning gets an update

Thanks to a recent update, you’ll now have a much smoother ride when planning Tours.

	Waypoints and Highlights are added to your route in one or two seconds, instead of 30+ seconds!

	The Tour is less cluttered when you zoom out – the waypoints shrink and eventually disappear so you can see your route instead of overlapping dots on a map.

	City names appear sooner when you start zooming in, so you can orientate yourself while still having an overview of most of the route.

If you’re using the planner on the web, there are a few extra improvements:

	There’s an undo/redo button – add a waypoint in the wrong spot? Just hit undo. And if you want to go there after all? Hit redo!

	The overall performance is faster and smoother – no more overheating laptops or super slow loading of maps and Highlights.

Now for the surprise: Google Street View is integrated with komoot

Use it to visualize your route in detail – check the surface type, the width of the shoulder, and the view. To use this feature, click anywhere on the map and select the Street View icon in the popup – if Street View is available in the location you want to explore, you’ll have your most effective virtual recce yet!
